A dismissed policeman, Victor Yaw Gaisie has allegedly defrauded one James Asante, a teacher at Kintampo and 44 others of GH¢91,000 under the pretext of assisting them to be recruited into any of the security services of their choice.
At a hearing before an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Janet Quaye, the accused person pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor said the incident happened in November 2015, when Yaw introduced himself as a policeman at the Police Headquarters in Accra, who with his protocol privilege, could help them get recruited into any of the security services at a fee.
He told the teacher and the 44 others who showed interest to pay GH¢3,500 each to enable him do due diligence for their recruitment into the Armed forces and Police Service.
After the monies were paid into his accounts, he switched off his contact numbers and all attempts to reach him proved futile. The victims on August 14, this year petitioned the Director General of CID, and on that same day the accused person was lured to a hotel at Ashaiman where he was arrested and arraigned for Court.
He has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000.
He is also to provide four sureties and reappear in Court on September 13.
