The Ghana Tourism Authority has warned unregistered tourism operators in the Northern Region to register or risk closure.
The operators made up of car rental services, travel and tour agents and chop bar operators have up to the 1st of September to register or be arrested.
The Northern Regional Manager of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Alexander Nketia, gave the ultimatum at a meeting with stakeholders in Tamale today.
He has also directed the operators to form an association to make it easy for them to deal with the authority.
Some of the operators expressed concern about the ultimatum for registration and appealed for an extension to enable them to raise funds to register.
The Ghana Tourism Authority in the Northern Region has been working to modernize and explore the potential of tourism in the region.
These efforts include the registration of tour operators, which the authority sees as crucial for monitoring to ensure that they comply with standards.
