The Daily Graphic is saddened by the death of 25 able-bodied persons who were burnt to death in an explosion from an over turned fuel tanker in Tanoso near Techiman.  While expressing it heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the paper says what makes it even more pathetic is the fact that whilst lives were lost some people resorted to looting the spilled fuel.  It says, since the phenomenon has now caught up with the country, it behoves every body to rally round and educate the people on the danger of scooping fuel from overturned vehicles and other unorthodox sources, if such calamities are to  be avoided in future.  The Graphic cites mounting campaigns on radio, television and in news papers to highlight the dangers one is exposed to in handling fuel unprofessionally.  The paper congratulates President Kufuor for taking the lead to visit the town to mourn with the people.

The Ghanaian Times commends the Minister of Health Major Courage Quashigah in promoting healthy lifestyles.  To the paper, the Minister’s public engagements  is always on the subject of encouraging Ghanaians to eat more vegetables and fruits, drinking of water and regular physical exercises.  In the opinion of the Times this has led to the Ministry’s official adoption of the Regenerative Health Programme which he has personally tasked himself to promote.  It says his style is a far cry from that of two thirds of the country’s Ministers, since independence.

The Accra Daily Mail is happy everyone is talking about peace in the country.  And it also means we are all alert to the likelihood that election violence would not take us by surprise like other African countries.  According to the paper, now that the nation is saturated with calls for peace before and after the elections, the calls must be translated into confidence building actions.  It also urges political leaders to concentrate on passing on the message of the rule of law to their followers.  The Accra Daily mail however urges Ghanaians not to take the law into their own hands when aggrieved but allow the institutions in charge  to handle the disputes that may arise.

The Public Agenda commends the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) an agricultural research programme for spearheading a new effort to make Africa to focus on research and development of the agricultural sector.  It says, the project will help increase the availability and affordability of quality agro-inputs in rural areas.  According to the paper, the project will create a conducive environment to increase the productivity of more than 850 thousand farmers across Ghana.  The paper calls on government to cooperate with AGRA’s initiative to make green revolution in Ghana reality.
