Milovan braces up for Tripoli test

Ghana coach, Milovan Rajevac remains excited with the events of the past week and news of his former side, FK Borac's qualification to the group stage of the UEFA Cup on Tuesday seems to have spurred him on as he prepares for his first competitive game. The Black Stars coach will name his first Black Stars squad this week and is looking up to the challenge of leading Ghana in a very competitive game.

Having watched the Black Stars pull an important draw in the international friendly played last week against Tanzania, Milovan declared himself satisfied with the output of his inherited team.

“I was very, very satisfied with the performance of every player. Even without players like Essien, Mensah and Muntari, who are big players, the rest played for the nation.

“I liked the spirit of the team and we have a big group that we can make selections from. That was an important for me to see them play,” he said when asked about his opinion on the friendly game.

And as the coach looks up to the next Ghana challenge, he says events back home in Serbia has really lifted him after hearing news of the progress made miles away by his former team, FK Borac in the UEFA Cup competition.

His last club before taking up the Ghana appointment managed to come from a goal down in Bulgaria to complete an aggregate victory over PFC Lokomotiv Sofia and reach the UEFA Cup first round. Milovan Rajevac guided them to an emotional 1-0 victory in the first leg.

“That is good news. I am happy because the work we started is still going on well. The team has done a lot within this short time. I like the character of the team,” the Ghana coach said about the progress made by his former team.

The Borac progress is history now as Rajevac bids to lead Ghana to both the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations and FIFA World Cup.

And the nation will this week be expectant to hear the announcement of Milovan Rajevac’s squad for the penultimate 2010 African Nations Cup and World Cup qualifying match against Libya in Tripoli on September 5.

“I was happy with what I saw against Tanzania and this week, everyone would know my team. We missed some regular players there (game against Tanzania) but this is a big game and we expect to have everyone available,” he told www.ghanafa.org.

“It’s an important game for us and we would take it very serious like the previous games.”

“That’s (match with Libya) a game I want to win. It’s very important that we win that game and I would put in everything to make it happen,” he said.

Libya looked a very decent team in the first leg, with Ghana seemingly taken aback by the quick runs despite the Black Stars winning the game the Group 5 match 3-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium in June.

Milovan Rajevac says he has broadened his monitoring of Ghana’s next opponents after seeing the first leg on DVD as he prepares for the return game, a challenge he says he is very much ready for.

“I have watched the first game and you know they were good. They are quick and aggressive. But we have to vary our tactics too.

“I have spoken to technical people who have seen the Libyans too and I must work around what I have seen, been told and anything that happens on the day as things can change in football.”

“It’s a big game for Ghana and also for me. I am hopeful of a positive result and that’s what i would set up my team to achieve.”

Ghana, who reached their first-ever FIFA World Cup finals in Germany in 2006 sit at the summit of the Group 5 table with a maximum of 9 points from a possible 12.

The Black Stars lead the pack with a better goal difference ahead of September 5 opponents, Libya who are second on the standings.
