Asamoah Gyan has been recalled to the Black Stars five months after playing his last game for the Black Stars. The Rennes forward has not played for Ghana since the 2-1 quarter final win over Nigeria in the 2008 Nations Cup in a tournament during which he was constantly booed by his own fans. But following a move to Stade Rennes in France, Gyan has been offered a route back into the squad by new coach Milovan Rajevac even though reports in France suggest he could be having problems with his thighs.
Rajevac's first official squad was dominated by the same players who have been playing for the Black Stars in the last two years but there were a few refreshing additions.
Kaizer Chiefs defender Jonathan Quartey who only last week made his senior debut against Tanzania seems to have impressed the new man who watched that game in Arusha.
The former youth international is one of four players who have been called up for the first time for the 2010 qualifiers. Gyan is also one of them as well Chris Dickson who started upfront in Tanzania last week.
The Charlton Athletic forward is the latest lower division player from England to get his breakthrough with Ghana and will be delighted with the opportunity.
Apart from those players it is business as usual for Rajevac who will be seeking three points from a game that could be Ghana's most difficult yet in the world cup qualifiers.
Ghana is tied on the same points with Libya going into next Friday's game. The Tripoli meeting could therefore be crucial in deciding which of the two sides picks up the top spot going into the next round of qualifiers.
