Nana Akufo Addo tours Gomoa East
Nana Akufo Addo tours Gomoa East

The NPP presidential candidate, Nana Akufo Addo has assured the chiefs and people of Gomoa Potsin that the new Gomoa East district would be further split into two under his presidency. This would help solve the problem that emerged as a result of the citing of the capital for the new district at Afransi which according to them should have been at Potsin.

He gave the assurance in response to serious concerns raised by the chief of Potsin, Nana Twako when Nana Addo addressed a durbar there as part of his tour of the Central region.

Nana Addo’s Central Regional tour has so far been very smooth. However his meeting with the chiefs and people of Gomoa Potsin proved to be a test case for him. On his arrival, there were very few people at the durbar grounds apparently because most of the people were angry with the government’s decision to cite the capital of the new Gomoa East district at Afransi instead of Potsin.

The matter became clear when the Chief of the town, Nana Twako in his welcome address visibly showed his anger and insinuated that the government has not dealt well with them. He got the full support of his people who praised him for whatever he said. Nana Addo after considering the concerns of the Chief and having consultations on the dais, pointed out that the only permanent solution to the problem, looking at the historical background, is to create a new district for the area; thus there would be Gomoa West, Central and East districts.

He told the people that the decentralization programme is aimed at developing the rural areas and if creating a new district there would enhance the socio-economic development of the people then that would be done under his presidency. The MP for Assin North, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong said Potsin would be developed into a commercial and industrial city.

To this end, the Potsin Ahmadiyya Senior High School would be upgraded into a model school. He also presented them with a cheque of ten thousand Ghana Cedis for the construction of W.C toilet facility in the town. The Minister of Information and National Orientation Stephen Asamoah Boateng assured the chiefs and people that the Potsin-Swedru road which is under construction would be completed soon to open up the place for commercial activities.

Nana Addo’s team also visited Afranse, Bawjiase, Kasoa, Nyanyano, Fetteh Kakrabe, Senya Breku and Winneba. Addressing the teaming crowds he called on the youth to brave themselves up for the economic boom that the country is about to experience because of the oil find.

Nana Addo stressed that under his presidency, any person who will make the effort to improve him or herself would be assisted. This would be done irrespective of political, geographical, religious or tribal affiliations or background. The NPP flag bearer challenged his opponents to what he called insult-free and tribal-free politics.

He said this is the only way the electorate would know who has grips on the issues that affect Ghanaians. He promised to stick to matters that concern the populace and what he can do when elected to solve them so that the country can move forward.
