Residents in Takoradi insists on masts removal
Residents of Housing Mangoase Area at Effiakuma in Takoradi have again appealed to the Environmental Protection Agency, EPA, to as a matter of urgency, ensure the removal of masts belonging to MTN, TIGO and Ghana Telecom which are erected in the community.  The appeal comes barely two weeks after the EPA took steps to stop Westel Communication Company from erecting their mast in the area.  The action of the EPA was as a result of a similar appeal from the residents, who vehemently opposed the sitting of the mast.

A letter signed by the residents said they are aware of the health hazards such as cancer, leukaemia, permanent tiredness, headache, joints and muscular pains associated with the radiation of those masts.  The petition said there are living evidences of children in the area suffering from long term coughing, skin rashes and rampant crying especially where the MTN mast is situated.  It made particular reference to the sitting of GBC masts which give consideration to the importance of distance to human habitation and called on the EPA to impress upon the communication networks to do same.
