Spate of some ailments heigthened by climate change
An assessment on the effects of climate change in Ghana indicates that water resources, agricultural production and the coastal zone, are under threat. In addition, increased health related diseases such as malaria, cerebra spinal meningitis, guinea worm and diarrheoa cases will continue to increase, if adequate measures are not put in place to address the phenomena.

These were made known at workshop in Accra on Aligning Forest Governance with Reduced Emissions on Deforestation and Degradation organized by the Forestry Commission. The Programme officer of the Environmental Protection Agency, Antwi Boasiako Amoa, in an overview of climate change in Ghana, said, rainfall patterns in the Savanna, Forest, and Coastal Zones, have been decreasing, while climate temperatures are continuing to sue.

Mr. Amoa, revealed that the sea level continue to use by an average level of 3 meters per year. This has meted has resulted in the sea level wise, and erosion along the coast in areas such as Keta, and Ada. Mr. Amoa noted that to address the effects of climate change a number of programmers and policies have been put in place. These include the conservation of the existing forest, development of commercial plantations in Agro Forestry areas.

An officer from the International Union for Conservation of Nature, IUCN, Consuelo Espinosa, revealed that six countries including Ghana, and Liberia have been selected to benefit from the Carbon Emission reduction fund set up by the World Bank, after the Kyoto Prot cool, to assist countries to reduce their carbon emission and pollution levels.
