The presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo Addo, has acknowledged that the Western Region has not got its fair share of the  national cake despite its enormous natural resources.  The party will therefore ensure that the region especially, the capital, Sekondi-Takoradi is transformed radically within five years if it wins the December elections.

Nana was speaking at a forum with chiefs and queen mothers of the region in Sekondi.  He  said  the  NPP  will promote  the  emerging  oil and  petrol-chemical industries in the  region to make it the  engine of the  national economy for the  benefit of all people.  Nana Akufo Addo said the NPP is determined to revamp the railways to make it more viable to play its expected role in the economy and create job opportunities for the youth.

He  recalled the role of the  Western Region and  Sekondi-Takoradi in the  independence  struggle, and  the part played  by people like  Paa Grant and  Pobee Biney and  paid  glowing  tribute to them.

Nana  Akufo Addo  said  it is  important  that  at the  turn of the  country’s Golden Jubilee celebration, the  NPP should  hold its national delegates conference  to launch its manifesto and  mammoth rally in the  Western Region to thank the pioneers of the independence struggle.  He called for the support the chiefs and people of  the  region to enable the  NPP to win the  2008 elections to continue its good works.

The President of the Western Region House of Chiefs and Omanhene of Lower Axim , Awulae Attibrukusu thanked Nana Akufo Addo for the visit to the house. He called on all the political parties to conduct their campaigns in a peaceful manner.
