Becca Storms Nigeria

Although Ghana’s sensational Afro-pop singer Becca is less than a year old in the music business in Ghana and Africa, she has gained so much prominence and recognition not only in the country but also on the entire African Continent. Just last week, the Ghana Music Awards and ACRAG Awards winner and nominee for the KORA and Channel O African music awards was in the Nigerian capital Abuja as a special guest for the launch of the MTV Africa Music Awards. This nouvelle awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in Abuja, Nigeria.

Three top African artistes made up of D’bange, Nice and Becca were invited to address the press at the launch of the MTV African Music Awards. In her speech, Becca focused generally on contemporary music in Africa.

She expressed happiness that Africa, a continent of about 800 million people and one thousand languages which boasts of diverse sounds and rhythms, now has the platform to recognize and reward its own. She added that African music is undoubtedly the mother of all genres of music, enjoyed in America and other parts of the world.

She lauded the feats of African personalities like Kofi Annan, J.J. Okocha, Michael Essien and Wole Soyinka in the fields of world politics, sports and literature, indicating that she hoped the time had come for African music to gain world recognition and attention through the MTV African Music Awards.

Becca told the gathering that the time for African music to take its rightful place in the world is now; “the time is now for us to look at the bigger picture to market our music”.
