The Ghana Football Association has made it known that it will seek the services of Manchester United starlet Danny Welbeck.The 17-year-old was born in Manchester and has already represented England at underage level, however, both of his parents are Ghanaian.
Fifa legislation states that a player may switch international allegiance while under the age of 21, even after representing another country at junior level before that time. Welbeck has stormed to prominence in the Premier League as a result of his stunning cameo goal in Manchester United's 5-0 win over Stoke City last week.
Now, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) are hoping to seal a deal that will see the striker pledge allegiance to the Black Stars. Spokesperson for the GFA said the GFA president (Kwesi Nyantakyi) has been in constant talks with his Welbeck's family and the response is quite encouraging.
There is still much to be cleared with respect to the player's career development and gaining a regular place in the Manchester United first team.But we are very sure that when the time is due for the player to make a national team choice, it will be the Black Stars.
