The presidential candidate of the NPP, Nana Akufo Addo, has expressed satisfaction and gratitude to God for the prevailing peace in Bawku which he said, has allowed political activities to take place in the Municipality.  He said Bawku is an integral part of the country and everything possible must be done to ensure its peace so that it can develop with the rest of the country.  Nana Akufo Addo made these remarks when he paid a courtesy call on the Bawku Naba, Asigri Aburago Azoko at his palace at Bawku as part of a two day campaign tour of the Upper East Region.

Early this year, an ethnic conflict erupted between the Kusasis and Mamprusis and lingered for 10 months.  Many precious lives were lost and property worth millions of cedis were destroyed.  Educational and Health system were interrupted and life in the Municipality almost came to a standstill.  However, following the intervention of some well meaning Ghanaians, churches, NGOs, the Municipal and Regional Security Councils, the National Peace Council and President Kufuor himself, peace has now returned and life is boisterous in the Municipality.

For the last two weeks almost all the presidential candidates have gone to Bawku to campaign.  Nana Akufo Addo noted however that for lasting peace to prevail there is the need for reconciliation among the people.  He prayed for long life and wisdom for the Bawku Naba to be able to reconcile his people.  Nana Akufo Addo pledged his party’s commitment to ensure reconciliation and true peace to Bawku..  Naba Abugrago appreciated Nana Addo’s visit.

Addressing a mini rally later at Natinga, Nana Akufo Addo repeated that if voted into office he would expand the Northern Development Fund with US$ 1bn.  The money he said, will be used to improve agriculture by constructing more dams for all year round irrigation, improve the road network as well as build more educational and health facilities.  Nana Akufo Addo who was accompanied by his running mate, Dr. Mohamadu Bawumia and other top party members also called on the family of the late Adam Amandi, a former Regional Chairman of the NPP.
