Stakeholders in the Nanumba South District of the Northern Region have appealed to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to consider lifting the two year ban it imposed on the Wulensi Senior High Schools as an examination centre. A leading member of the Group, Alhaji Abdulai Iddrisu Iron, made the appeal at a stakeholders meeting organized by a Community Based Organization (CBO)operating in the area. The forum which was to find the way forward for development of the area was attended by heads of departments, teachers and students among others.
Mr. Iron described the ban as unfortunate as it will negatively affect students, teachers and stakeholders as well as the entire community. He therefore urged the Council to rescind its decision and re-institute the school as a centre, whilst assuring WAEC of the support of all relevant stakeholders to help check examination malpractices and instill discipline in the school to prevent future occurrence.
The headmaster of the school, Paul Konde, thanked the organizers of the forum and pledged that his administration would do all it can to change the fortunes of the school. He expressed concern about the environment not being conducive, in which both students and staff of the school operate and appealed to the District Assembly to consider constructing hostel and classroom accommodation for the school.
Mr. Konde also appealed to the GES to post more teachers to the school to boost effective teaching and learning. He however contended that if adequate learning material was available for the preparation for exams, the question of examination malpractices would not have arisen in the school and asked the stakeholders to commit themselves in that direction.
