Parliamentary candidates in the Akwatia constituency have appealed to the Chairman of the Kwaebibrim District Election Security Task Force, to ensure that there is peace in the Akwatia constituency on the election day which is only two weeks away.
The candidates made the appeal in a petition to the task force following recent disturbances in the constituency. The petition noted that recent acts by supporters of some political parties such as hooting at candidates, removal of posters and threats of attacks do not augur well for peaceful elections.
The parliamentary candidates therefore, called on the District Security Task Force to do all it can to avert any clash on elections day. The District Elections Officer, Gabriel Dei assured the candidates, that his office is committed to ensuring that all electoral rules and procedures are observed on the election day.
Mr.Dei said, Ghana’s electoral system has been tried and tested and nobody will be allowed to do anything to disturb the peace. He asked the candidates to engage committed polling agents to represent them on the election day.
