The Birim North District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme has since its inception in 2004 registered a total of 101,158 or 68 percent of the total population of about 150 thousand people.
Out of the total number registered only 2,670 or 2.6 percent are Social Security and National Insurance Trust, SSNIT, contributors.
The Scheme Manager, Julius Nelimor, disclosed this during a press briefing at New Abiriem in the Eastern Region.
On pregnant women, Mr. Nelimor revealed that 3,287 have so far been registered.
Mr. Nelimor listed inadequate human resource, insufficient number of computers and accessories, delay in payment of claims due to frequent shortage of funds, slow Information and Communication Technology [ICT] programme for data entry and processing as some of the constraints facing the scheme.
Other challenges, he continued were late submission and unsigned bills.
To make reimbursement to service providers easier, Mr. Nelimor advised them to prescribe drugs by their generic rather than their brand names, which should at the same time, be within the National Health Insurance Authority, medicine list.
Claims forms, he advised, should be carefully filled to avoid rejection and deductions, Mr. Nelimor appealed to the general public to have confidence in the scheme and advised those who have not registered to do so in order to have the chance to access affordable and quality health care delivery.
