A forum to discuss issues affecting the National Health Insuarnace Scheme (NHIS) and how to facilitate its smooth implementation in  the country has taken place at Wa in the Upper west region.  It also discussed issues on tariff setting and claim management which among other things impede the smooth running of the scheme.  The forum was organized by the Netherlands Development Organisation, SNV an NGO.

Since the introduction of the NHIS a couple of years ago, it has been battling with some common problems.  Notable among them are issuance of new ID cards and its renewal, quality assurance in service delivery and data management.  It is against this background that the Netherlands Development Organisation, SNV, organized the Forum to find solutions to these problems.

The Forum which was the first of its kind was attended by the staff of NHIS in the region, officials of the Ghana Heallth Service and District Co-ordinating Directors.

The Upper Wesr Regional Minister, Mr. Mahmud Khalid commended the Netherlands Develkopment Organization SNV, for showing interest in issues that affect the lives of the people.  He challenged participants to come out with strategies to deal with the problems facing the NHIS.
