Three new textbooks on English, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science for Senior High Schools have been launched in Accra. The text books which bear the name Black Star series was compiled and published by the Cambridge University Press, UK and Damas Educational Services of Ghana.
The three books have been written to meet all the new requirements as specified in the curriculum for the four years of the Senior High School Programme in the country. The textbooks are also to facilitate easy understanding to help students practice their newly-gained skills and knowledge. Launching the books, the Principal of the University of Education, Winneba, Professor. Steve Sobotie, said the books are to help make teaching and learning easy and to enhance education.
The President of the Ghana Library Association, Mrs. Valentine Bannerman said, creative words must be protected from piracy. She said most students do not buy textbooks but prefer photocopy which she said, is against the law of copyright. Mrs. Bannerman therefore appealed to publishers not to price the books out of the reach of others but for every student.
