The Moderator – Elect of the General Assembly of the E.P Church, Rev. Francis Amenu says Ghanaians should resolve to come out of the December elections more united and ready to defend the gains made since returning to constitutional rule in 1992. He therefore advised all actors in the political landscaped to pledge that their actions and utterances will go a long way to enhance the credibility of results of the elections. Rev. Amenu stated this when he delivered the sermon at the Accra – New Town E.P Bethel Church to mark the Seventh District Anniversary.
Rev. Amenu said there is the need to let the spirit of tolerance, honesty, compassion and humility take centre stage in all activities towards the December polls. Turning to the church, Rev. Amenu noted that the negative conduct of some people who profess to be Christians create doubt on the transformation role of religious leaders.
He expressed worry about the way wealth and authority have gained priority over the fear of God. He said Ghanaians should not only pray to seek divine guidance in the elections, but the prayers should be backed with fellow teaching, good deeds and hard work. He charged his fellow religious leaders to strive to be at the forefront of any programme aimed at promoting peaceful co-existence among Ghanaians. Rev. Amenu said this role has become crucial because the various religious gathering are made up of people from diverse ethnic and political backgrounds.
The West-Volta Presbytery Chairman, Rev. J.K Kodade called on the youth to engage in healthy debate on national issues and not to allow any politician to divert their youthful energies to cause confusion. He urged the youth to bear in mind that, they can only aspire for leadership position in a united and peaceful society, hence the need for them to avoid acts likely to result in violence.
