Stakeholders and partners in education have been urged to attach much importance to every component of the educational reforms to ensure quality education delivery in the country. The Atwima-Nwabiagya District Director of Education, Mrs Dinah Appiah, who made the call, stressed that education, which is the major tool for development must be given more attention. She was speaking at the inauguration of Nerebehi Students Union at Nerebehi in the Atwima-Nwabiagya in Ashanti, last Sunday.
Mrs. Appiah stated that parents and guardians should take advantage of the government’s fee-free education policy and enroll their children in schools. She said all school-going age children should be adequately motivated and encouraged to go to school and also take their studies more seriously.
Mrs Appiah expressed disapproval about parents allowing their children to engage in trading and other income-generating activities, instead of encouraging them to go to school. Mr. Opoku Awuah, Chairman of the Nerebehi School Management Committee (SMC), appealed to the citizens to offer more scholarships and other form of assistance to brilliant but needy pupils and students, to enable them pursue high academic laurels.
President of the Union, Mr Alex Amankwaa, said that members of the union have been organizing free remedial classes for students including teaching of Information Communication and Technology (ICT).
He said plans were advanced to establish a community library, to inculcate in the youth the culture of reading, to make them more knowledgeable and also reduce some vices that were associated with some young people. Mr Amankwaa appealed to the residents to offer the union the needed support to enable them achieve their desired objectives.
