Fire Service enforces the use of fire extinguishers
Eight hotels in the Accra West District have been closed down by the Greater Accra Regional National Fire Service. This is because they do not have fire certificates. The closure which started yesterday was carried out in Dansoman, Kasoa and Weija. The Regional Safety Officer, Joseph Torsu told Radio Ghana that the closure is to enforce the setting up of fire fighting devices on their premises and also to acquire fire certificates.

He said it is not enough for businesses to have only fire extinguishers but also Fire officers need to examine their buildings to find out if there are adequate exit points for emergency use in case of any fire outbreak. He noted that the closure of hotels which have not been certified will continue. Mr. Torsu asked the media to educate the public on fire safety measures. He advised people who patronize hotels to always look out for fire safety devices before they lodge.
