Thirty people whose houses were destroyed by floods last year at Chuchuliga in the Upper East Region have each received keys to a two-bedroom unit quarters at Chuchuliga. The thirty quarters formed part of 55 houses funded by the Canadian International Development Agency, CIDA, at a cost of $75,000. Their construction was supervised by the Ghana Red Cross Society. The gesture by CIDA and the Red Cross was in response to an appeal made by President Kufuor to the International Community for Support.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, Agnes Chigabatia, said government has embarked on a massive reconstruction of roads destroyed by the floods in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions. Affected schools have also been rehabilitate. Award of contracts for the rehabilitation of damaged health infrastructure is also in progress.
