Deported American protesters arrive back from China
The deportees when they protesteed ahead of the Olympic games

Eight Americans who were arrested and deported for planning protest in the just-ended Olympic games in Beijing have arrived in the US.  The Americans were flown back to their home country on a Chinese air flight to Los Angeles yesterday.

The US ambassador to China, Clark Randt has criticized the Chinese government for holding the Americans for several days before the deportation.  He said it was the first time a foreign national has been detained for many hours for protesting during the Olympic Games.  The Chinese law however allows the police to hold foreign nationals in jail for two weeks.
