NGO support high enrolment in basic schools in Sissala West
Government and Non-Governmental interventions have contributed to an increase in primary school enrolment from 2,336 in the 2006-2007 academic year to 14,853 at the start of 2007-2008 in the Sissala West District of Upper West Region.

The District Director of Education Iddrisu Mahama who made this known attributed this to government’s introduction of the Capitation Grant, School Feeding Programme and the provision of educational infrastructure.  He said shortage of teachers is posing a serious threat to development in the district.  Mr. Mahama commended the District Assembly for allocating GHC 25,000 for the sponsorship of teacher trainees this year.
