Women urged to regularly test their breasts for cancer symptoms
The President of Breast Care International and Specialist in Breast Pathology, Dr. Beatrice Wiafe-Addai, has identified ignorance, illiteracy and poverty as some of the factors that militate against women in their various communities.  Dr. Wiafe-Addai, was speaking at a breast screening exercise organized by the Tolon-Kumbungu Area Development Programme Officer of World Vision Ghana for Women.  She said research has shown that most women who develop breast cancer become barren.

Dr. Wiafe-Addai said every woman is at risk and that out of every 12 women, one of them stands at risk of the disease.  She said though the disease is common in women it can be found in men as well.  Dr. Wiafe-Addai was hopeful that the exercise which forms part of a nation-wide agenda of Breast Care International will help assist women to access screening.

The Tolon-Kumbungu Programme Manager of World Vision Ghana, Fuastina Tietteh noted that about 500 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, and 75% of them are above and over the age of 50 years.  Miss Tietteh advised women to always report to a medical centre for immediate treatment when they find an unusual change on their breast.
