Mayor of Accra, Adjiri Blankson

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly(AMA) Chief Executive, Stanley Adjiri Blankson, has appealed to rate payers to pay their required rates and fees to enable the Assembly raise enough funds to support the development of Accra.  He stressed the need to settle all bills due A.M.A. to start the development agenda of the city.  Mr. Blankson was speaking at a stakeholders forum in Accra.

The forum was aimed at soliciting ideas from stakeholders on how the A.M.A. could mobilize more funds through its revenue collection.  Mr. Blankson said in every country, the city authorities depend on property rates and business operating levies to provide services that made their cities clean.

He expressed regrets over the spate at which litter bins mounted in the city are being stolen to be sold as scraps.  Mr. Blankson attributed the filth in Accra to indiscriminate dumping of refuse and bad attitude.

According to him the A.M.A. has reviewed all measures in the activities of waste contractors who had to re-apply to be vetted. AHe noted that the Assembly has enormous responsibilities and challenges however, with co-operation and support from all stakeholders it can succeed.
