The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Yaw Frimpong-Manso, says what Ghanaians need most today is love for each other and a unity which binds them together as one people for common good and purpose and national progress. He said the current trends of ethnocentrism, divisions and rancour will not help the nation. Rt. Rev. Dr. Frimpong-Manso noted with concern that the Church which ought to set the best example of love and unity for the world to emulate is more divided than ever. He therefore called for unity from all members of the Presbyterian Church and among all Ghanaians at this stage of the country’s development especially as the nation draws close to general elections.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Frimpong-Manso made the call at the commissioning of 21 Ministerial probationers at the Trinity Congregation of the Church at Kwadaso in Kumasi. The group forms the last batch of 76 Ministers who were commended by a special committee to be commissioned into the Ministry this year. The 21 men and women had undergone a three-year basic theological education at the Ramseyer Training Centre at Abetifi Kwahu. The General Assembly council therefore gave approval for the Moderator to commission them to continue their probational studies in the various presbyteries of the Church.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Frimpong-Manso noted that materialism, immorality and corruption have been the bane of godliness in the world today. However, the Church which ought to show the way is in most cases either blind to the realities of life or is afraid to perform her advocacy role. Mrs. Esther Lamley Segbefia on behalf of the newly commissioned ministers pledged that they will help to educate people in the communities they will serve to ensure free, fair and peaceful general elections this year. They will also not betray the confidence reposed in them and work assiduously towards the physical and spiritual growth of the Presbyterian Church in particular and the Ghanaian society in general.
