Busumuru Kofi Annan, new Chancellor of University of Ghan
The University of Ghana has held a special congregation for the investiture of a new chancellor in the person of Kofi Annan, former Secretary-General of the UN. The ceremony also forms part of the 60th anniversary of the university in which the university is conferred honorary degrees on some distinguished personalities.
President John Kufuor who performed the swearing in ceremony for the new chancellor said the government is providing GHC 60mn to the university.
The former Secretary General of the United Nations,who is also a Nobel Peace Laureate, succeeds Oyeeman Wereko Ampem II, the late Omanhene of Amanokrom and Gyasehene of Akuapim Traditional Area who occupied the Chancellor position until his death three years ago.
His appointment was announced the Chairman of the University Council, Tony Oteng-Gyasi at a press conference on the 60th anniversary of the premier university.
