TBAs blamed for not improving marternal mortality
Studies have shown that Traditional Birth Attendants (TBA’s) have not contributed to the reduction of maternal mortality in the country.  The District Director of Health Services of Prestea-Huni-Valley, Caroline Otoo who disclosed this to Radio Ghana said the situation has arisen because TBA’s are not well trained. She said there is little TBA’s can do to save situations of mothers in labour especially when complications occur.

This, she noted, usually results in the high level of maternal mortality.  Mrs. Otoo called on Assembly members in the Bogoso area in particular to educate pregnant women to register and access the free delivery policy established by government in the district. She said since the introduction of government’s free delivery package last month not many pregnant women in the Prestea-Huni-Valley area have been registering to access the facility.
