Deputy National Imam on indiscipline among the youth

The Deputy National Imam of the Ghana Muslim Mission, Sheikh Dr. Ameen Bonsu, says the task of curbing the spate of indiscipline among the youth, especially students, is a collective responsibility.  He has therefore called for a nationwide campaign to deal with the canker, before the situation gets out of hand.

Speaking to Radio Ghana in Kumasi, Sheikh Dr. Amen Bonsu said delinquency, hooliganism, truancy and drug abuse are rife in educational institutions.  These adverse practices, he noted, act as platforms for the development of social vices, which if not curbed, will consistently undermine and erode the norms and traditions that society upholds.

Sheikh Bonsu said it is sad that even some students in Junior High Schools smoke and abuse drugs and engage in other self destroying acts.  The situation gets bleaker when these same students move to the Senior High Schools where they are exposed to a worse scenario of peer pressure to engage in armed robbery.  He said the beginning stage of discipline rests with parents and society.
