An Ordination Mass has been held at Pankrono in Kumasi to induct 13 seminarian graduates into the Catholic Priesthood. The new priests, who are aged between 27 and 64 years until their ordination, served as either Brothers or Deacons of the church after 10 years of seminary education.
The Mass, which was the first under the headship of the new Kumasi Metropolitan Catholic Archbishop, Most Reverend Thomas Kwaku Mensah, was witnessed by Government Officials, traditional leaders, families of the new priests and the Catholic faithful.
Archbishop Mensah used the occasion to remind religious groupings in Ghana of their crucial role in ensuring a just society. He urged Christians in particular not to elect candidates in both the parliamentary and presidential polls in December because of their personal, political, religious or ethnic interest. They should instead vote for people who genuinely have national development, peace and harmony on their agenda.
Most Rev. Mensah asked members of the clergy to also continually educate their followers to appreciate their responsibility to society, while urging the new Catholic Priests to be good examples for their members in religion and moral conduct Archbishop Mensah entreated them to be respectful and uphold acceptable social norms in their communities.
The Executive Secretary of the Archdiocesan Catholic Health Services, Mrs. Alberta Sekyi-Hughes, who represented parents of the new priests called for love, cooperation and support of both their family and church members to enable the new priests to succeed in their chosen profession.
