Chiefs of Elmina urged to appreciate government's efforts
The Central Regional Minister, Nana Ato Arthur has urged the chiefs and people of Elmina to appreciate government efforts in dredging the Benya Lagoon as promised. He commended government for such a move, which he said, can impact on the lives of the people. Nana Ato Arthur gave the advice at a durbar of chiefs and people of Elmina to mark this year’s annual Bakatue festival.

After the first casting of the Omanhene’s net which is one important ritual of the festival, a variety of fish were caught signifying bumper harvest this season. The other two casting of the net also had more than the first one.  This the people described as unprecedented.

According to them, they have not seen such catch for the past forty years. The catch was attributed to the dredging of the lagoon. The Member of Parliament (MP) for Komenda Edina-Aguafo-Abrem, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, appealed to government to help the fishermen to have other avenues for making a living especially during lean season.
