The District Chief Executive for Bole, Jerry Yahaya, has advised small scale miners called ‘galamsey’ operators within the Bole District to register with the Minerals Commission to enable them operate legally and without security interference. He was addressing over 500 galamsey operators at a forum during his maiden tour at the Dakurpe District.
He urged the people to report all suspicious characters who continue to involve themselves in criminal acts including armed robbery. Mr. Yahaya advised them to guard against illicit and unprotected sex, to reduce the spread of HIV and AIDS in the district. He assured the galamsey members that the Bole District Assembly is making efforts to register them with the Minerals Commission, and urged them to be law abiding.
The District Chief Executive, asked those who are not yet registered to do so when the Electoral Commission re-opens the Voters Register to enable them exercise their franchise in the coming general elections.
Other communities visited by the DCE include Seripe and Kabalma where he explained some government policies and programmes including the rural electrification programme, the National Health Insurance Scheme, the school capitation grant, and the National Youth Employment programme.
