The Ministry of Communication is facilitating the development of a National Postal Policy to enable the industry as a whole, to develop regulations that will promote high quality standards. According to the cector minister, Benjamin Aggrey Ntim, government is mindful of the tremendous role being played by the postal industry in the communications sector. It will therefore complement the efforts of Ghana Post, to ensure that the company serves people especially in the rural areas, who lack basic access to information.
Mr. Aggrey Ntim announced this at the 4th Quadrennial National delegates conference of the Communication Workers’ Union in Kumasi. He said over the past four years, Government has injected over GH¢2.2 million into the development of postal infrastructure to support revenue generation.
This year alone, Ghana Post has a budget of GH¢840,000 spend in the construction of post offices, some of which have been sited in highly9 commercial areas to generate revenue. He expressed concern about attempts by some workers of Ghana Post to delay and deny the company the needed revenue from its innovative Instant Money Transfer business. The Minister therefore urged Management of Ghana Post to educate its staff to be sensitive to the plight of the society they serve.
The General Secretary of the Communication Workers’ Union, Anthony Dadie, suggested to the Ghana Post to reintroduce the Post Office Savings Bank and the Mail Van Passenger Service.
