The Judicial Service is providing financial support towards the setting up of commercial courts in the Northern, Western, Eastern and some parts of the Volta Regions to adjudicate on commercial issues. The aim is to build an efficient and independent judiciary, committed to the rule of law, good governance and a trustworthy justice system.

Addressing a forum of stakeholders for improving the rate of doing business, the Chief Justice, Mrs. Justice Georgina Wood said, the judicial machinery is a catalyst necessary for increasing promoting private sector business and investment activities in the country. She said in order to increase foreign investment in particular, investors must have faith in the Judicial system’s capacity to resolve disputes to business quickly, efficiently and fairly.

The Director of the Reform Project Development Sendra Thompson noted that the Judicial Service is paying careful attention to the laws that govern business activities in order to remove all challenges that endanger private sector business. This move is due to this year’s World Bank Ranking on doing business that placed Ghana at the 51st position regarding issues on enforcing contracts and protecting investors.

She said the Judicial Court among other things has set up a platform where cases will be pre-tried to ensure a quick settlement to promote a good business relationship between all parties. A Representative of the Association of Ghana Industries, Amankwah Yeboah commended the Judiciary for the position it has taken to promote the rule of law and fairness. He said the Courts in the districts will help speed up the justice system and lessen the burden on the main court in Accra. He added that the platform provided to solve land dispute will bring relief to investors.
