The Cape Coast Metropolitan Directorate of Health Services has introduced a new scheme for the treatment of tuberculosis. It is known as “Public-Private Package in the Management of Tuberculosis”. The Metropolitan Health Director, Dr. Joseph Nuertey, announced this at the launch of the scheme at Idan, a suburb of Cape Coast.  According to him, the project is being carried out in Tamale, Koforidua  and Takoradi. In the Central Region, he said, only the Cape Coast metropolis is implementing the scheme and involves private health institutions like  Topp and Abura Laboratories in the  management of Tuberculosis.

Dr. Nuertey disclosed that through dedication and hard work, the Health Directorate has been able to increase the cure rate from 43% to 58%. He said the Directorate is determined to improve the indicators further and called for public support in order to achieve the target. The National T.B.
