Managers of Vocational and Technical Institutions have been called upon to monitor their teachers to be sure that what they teach the students is in accordance with the syllabus. This will ensure effective teaching and learning and equip students with the needed skills and knowledge to be useful citizens in future.
The Executive Director of the National Vocational Training Institute NVTI, Stephen Amponsah made the call at the third graduation ceremony of the Abetifi Vocational Training Centre at Abetifi in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region. The function coincided with the swearing in of an 11 member management committee for the school. Mr. Amponsah said government is working hard to reduce the high level of illiteracy in the country. That is why it has introduced new subjects in the syllabus to develop the human resource base of the country. He urged the staff and management of the centre to focus on making it a centre of excellence and discipline.
Mr. Amponsah asked teachers to equip themselves with modern methods of teaching to enable them to be abreast of time. The Managress of the Centre, Mrs. Lydia Duvor said the centre has chalked up success in sports, religion and academics. She mentioned lack of teachers’ bungalows, training materials, means of transport and equipment as some challenges facing the school.
She called on government and philanthropists to go to their aid. Mrs. Duvor appealed to the NVTI to upgrade the centre to a model one to propagate the activities of NVTI. Mrs. Duvor noted that the management committees will serve as advisory body, on discipline and ensure that the centre is kept clean at all times. She pledged her support to uplift the image of the centre. The Kwahu South District Chief Executive, Nana Onwona Asante urged the students to learn hard and asked the graduands to put what they have learnt into practice to better their lives. He pledged the Assemblies support towards the betterment of the centre.
