The Mirror salutes all mothers on the occasion of mothers’ day today. The paper notes that even though the hardships women face are enormous, yet they continue to stand tall as the back bone of families and the nation.
The Mirror, acknowledged that even though a lot of education and sensitisation are being carried out by women’s groups, government and civil society organisations to empower women, the rising number of mothers too poor to meet the material needs of their household is n indication for a reassessment of the situation.
The paper therefore appeals to mothers and women, to start reawakening themselves and ensure that no matter the circumstances, they would not despair in their efforts to achieve their goals.
The Standard writes on this year’s celebration of World Press Freedom Day. It says the day reminds governments, inter-governmental and non-governments, Organizations as well as civil society of the crucial role a free press plays in strengthening democracies and fostering development around the world.
In its view, the greatest treat to Press freedoms when practitioners cannot express their opinions without bending backwards. It however, appeals to media practitioners not to exercise their freedom in a manner that world infringe on the liberties of other people.
