Significance of one week celebration after death
The observance of one week after the death of an individual is very common among the Akans.

In the past, it was used to plan for the funeral and announce the date for the final funeral rites.

Today, because of modernity, the observance has taken a different shape. Apart from using it as an occasion to plan for the funeral, there is the introduction of food and drinks, and public announcement in the media .

A lecturer at the African Studies Department of the University of Ghana, Steven Frimpong Manso tells GBC's Radio Ghana more about the observance of the day.
