BECE to be written in June from 2013
The Director of Public Relations at the Ministry of Education, Paul Krampah says, starting from the 2012/13 academic year, the Basic Education Certificate Examination, BECE, will be held in June instead of April.

This is to give pupils in the Junior High School the opportunity to enjoy the full nine years Basic Education Programme as required by law.

Speaking in an interview with GBC’s Radio Ghana in Kumasi, Mr. Krampah said both the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service have reached a consensus on the issue.

He said by this new arrangement, BECE candidates will write their final examinations in June, which is the third term of the school year. Also, parents will enjoy the full benefits of the third term fees they paid even though their children will not enjoy tuition during the term.

Mr. Krampah explained that the new date is also to ensure that children spend less time at home waiting for their results before proceeding to the Senior High school.

For her part, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Madam Benedicta Naana Biney, said the new date will help pupils to come out with very good grades as they will have more time to prepare adequately for the exams.
