Street battles rage in Syria, activists say
Sixteen months into the Syrian crisis and it appears the unrest is gripping Damascus.

Amateur footage purports to show opponents blocking a major highway in the capital, in retaliation, it is said, for regime forces bombing the Midan neighbourhood.

Other pictures, which also cannot be verified, reportedly show gun battles raging in the capital.

The latest wave of violence, which started on Sunday, is being described as the worst to hit the Damascus since the uprising against president Bashar al-Assad began.

Meanwhile, video footage is said to show rebel fighters clashing with government forces in Idlib province.

There are also claims that opponents staked out a government tank position in the area, before launching an attack against it.
