Upper West: 87 schools established by Regional Islamic Education Unit

The Upper West Regional Islamic Education Unit has for the past 25 years established 87 schools in the region.

The move is to complement government’s effort in providing quality education to the citizenry.

The Regional Manager of the Unit, Alhaji Salin Nurideen, said this after a health walk at Wa as part of activities marking the 25th anniversary of the Unit.

The participants in the health walk also donated blood to the regional hospital.

Alhaji Nurideen said the regional hospital has lauded the efforts of Muslims in the region for occasionally donating to the blood bank and asked those who could not take part in the exercise to donate blood voluntarily.


The Regional Manager of the Islamic Unit is not happy about the high level of indiscipline among a section of the youth and appealed to parents to be more responsible towards the welfare of their children.

He said inadequate infrastructure and lack of means of transport are some of the major challenges confronting the unit in the region.

Alhaji Nurideen appealed to the government, NGOs and other stakeholders to support the unit to enable it to render services to the people.
