The Ministry of Local Government has asked Regional Ministers to take charge of the 46 newly created districts pending the appointment of substantive DCE's.

Sector Minister, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, said the process for the selection of Chief Executives has begun with Member of Council of State, Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, as the head of the Selection Committee.

He announced that the newly created districts will receive their common funds in two weeks time. Mr. Ampofo charged the Assemblies to hit the ground running.

Meanwhile, GBC’s Ashanti Regional Correspondent, John Yeboah, reports that the inauguration of the Asokore Mampong Municipality in Kumasi was nearly disrupted when some residents of Nsenie and Oduom communities under the Kentikrono Electoral Area protested against the ceremony.

The Omanhene of Agogo Traditional Area, Nana Akuoko Sarpong, has assured the three Paramount Chiefs in the newly created Asante Akim North District that the gains and liabilities of the new district shall be shared equally.

He said, almost all the chiefs and people in the area contributed their quota in helping to create the district to help bring development closer to the people.

Nana Akuoko Sarpong was speaking at the inauguration of the new district at Agogo, the capital of the new district.
