Mali violence sparks UNESCO fears for Timbuktu
The UN’s cultural organisation UNESCO has named Timbuktu an endangered world heritage site because of the ongoing conflict in Mali.

Originally named a heritage site in 1988, UNESCO says fighting between the state and separatist Tuareg rebels could damage the town’s historical treasures.
