Stars ready to honour Jones Attuquayefio
Footballing greats have pledged to line up for the match in honour of celebrated coach, 'Sir' Cecil Jones Attuquayefio which will also seek to raise funds to support the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) department of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

The charity kick about between two teams, the 'Friends of Attuquayefio' and the Black Stars will come off at Accra Sports Stadium at 5:00pm.

'Sir' Cecil Jones Attuquayefio has been celebrated on many fronts for his coaching success but on Friday a host of stars of yesteryear will dust off their boots to play the charity soccer match in his honour.

Players who served under him during his trophy-laden years at Hearts of Oak will represent the ‘Friends of Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefio’ team against a select Black Stars team to be coached by assistant Ghana coach, Maxwell Konadu.

The 68 year-old coach guided the Phobians to a host of trophies which includes, their first Champions League title in 2000, the Super Cup and the maiden edition of the CAF Confederations Cup in 2004.

In 1998, he led the national U-17 team, the Black Starlets to win the African Under-17 Cup in Guinea and followed it up to win bronze at the World Under-17 tournament in New Zealand in 1999.

Whilst still in charge of Hearts of Oak in the year 2000, he was given an added responsibility of coaching the senior national team, the Black Stars through the Japan/Korea 2002 World Cup qualifying series.
