The Ghanaian Times focuses on today's inauguration of newly created metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies. According to the paper, the move will facilitate the decentralisation process and deepen democracy at the local level. It therefore urges beneficiaries to support efforts by government to bring development to the communities. The Times also calls on government to take the necessary steps to resolve the petty misunderstandings and squabbles which have cropped up in some communities as a result of the creation of the new district.

The Daily Graphic expresses worry over the continuous tension on the labour front. The paper's concern follows the two-week ultimatum given by TEWU to the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to resume negotiations on the 15 percent retention premium to some of its members. The Graphic maintains that dialogue and negotiation remain the only option at resolving disagreement and as such must be explored in order to resolve labour issues instead of industrial actions. The paper appeals to FWSC and the National Labour Commission to respond immediately to the issues raised by TEWU so that amicable solutions can be found.
