Authorities on closure of Kumasi Polytechnic
The Assistant Registrar in charge of Public Relations at the Kumasi Polytechnic, Robert Kyei Gyau, has been explaining the circumstances leading to the closure of Kumasi Polytechnic by the school authorities.

He noted the strike by POTAG has seriously affected its academic calender hence arriving at a decision to close down the Polytechnic.

Speaking on ‘Behind the News’, Mr. Kyei Gyau said the polytechnic wanted to go ahead with the examination to enable first and second year students to go ahead with their Industrial Attachments but POTAG refused.

He said when POTAG agrees to call off its strike, the final year students will be called to write their exams while the first and second year students will take theirs at the beginning of the next academic year.

Mr. Kyei Gyau added that all students are to leave the school by 6 pm tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the General Secretary of POTAG, Oswald Atigah said it is sad Kumasi Polytechnic had to close down adding that authorities of the institution could have been a little patient.

Speaking on ‘Behind the News’, Mr. Atigah noted that POTAG will hold a congress in Accra today to discuss issues concerning their salaries.

He said before the congress they will meet with the Controller and Accountants Generals Department and Financial Officers of the Polytechnics to see the progress made so far with their plight.

Mr. Atigah said when they are satisfied with the outcome of the meeting they will see what to do next.
