It is not legally wrong to issue Debt Payment Based on Court Ruling - Dr Benjamin Kumbour

The Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Dr Benjamin Kumbour, says legally it is not wrong to issue payment of a debt based on the ruling of a Court of Law.

He says the case of the 94 million judgement debt owed Construction Pioneers, CP, was arrived at after deliberations at the International court of arbitration.

He told the Public Accounts Committee, that since government had submitted itself to the jurisdiction of the International Court, it was imperative that the country carried out the ruling of the Court.

The Attorney General said out of the 94 million Euros that was finally arrived at, 14 million of the amount was paid on January 6, 2009.

He said the first installment of the remaining amount was due in March, this year.

Meanwhile, a Deputy Minister of Finance, Seth Tekper, informed the Committee of the procedures involved in such payments.
