The Catholic Bishops Conference has called on President Mills to demonstrate his commitment to ensure peace and rule of law.

The Conference also urged political parties to show similar commitment by denouncing all acts of violence by party activists and sanction those who break the peace.

Speaking to Radio Ghana, the Secretary General of the Conference, Rev Father Nicholas Afriyie said when the President speaks people will listen to him thereby calming the tension in the country.

Meanwhile, the Council of the Institute of Public Relations (IPR) Ghana has also cautioned political and opinion leaders to be circumspect in their utterances, particularly when addressing a mass of people, no matter the channel of communication.

The council expresses worry about the alarming use of intemperate and intolerant language by politicians and political spokespersons.

It said the current trend of political discourse and public speaking is a dent on the country's image as a warm and friendly country.

This was contained in a statement issued by the President of the Institute, Major Albert Don-Chebe.
