President Mahama meets Creative Industry
President John Mahama has asked members of the Creative industry to present to him innovative ways of protecting their Intellectual Property.

He also stated that even though the constitution provides for freedom of Association the various groups who form the Industry must come under one umbrella.

This, the President said will promote judicious use of budgetary allocation to them.

The President who is a member of the Arts industry was speaking at a meeting with members in Kumasi.

A representative of the Actors Guild, Nii Odoi Mensah, outlined a number of challenges the Industry faces.

Even though Nii Odoi Mensah acknowledged that the NDC government is the first to make budgetary allocation to the industry, he said it is woefully inadequate.

He also cited the difficulty the industry faces accessing venues like the National theatre and the Accra International Conference Centre for their programmes.

Responding, President Mahama said one of the oldest aspects of human civilisation can be traced to Musical instruments and their significance to National development can not be under-estimated.

He said what government seeks to do is to recognise the Creative industry as part of the Private Sector.

Aside from the two million Ghana cedi budgetary allocation, the President promised the Industry another significant allocation of funds.

He asked leadership of the Arts to dialogue and come out with ways to invest the money.

He also suggested that part of the money be invested in a vigorous campaign on Piracy and it consequences.
