GPHA urges importers to clear their goods on time
The Director-General of Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Richard Anamoo, has appealed to clearing agents and importers to expedite the clearing of their goods within two weeks to allow other vessels to also discharge their goods.

He noted that the Tema Port, which is deemed as the gateway to West Africa had been receiving a lot of vessels of late and the inability of clearing agents and importers to clear their goods on time was causing congestion at the port.

Speaking in an interview with the GNA, Mr Anamoo appealed to importers and clearing agents especially from Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso to abide by the rules on clearing goods on time from the port.

Mr Anamoo noted that both the Takoradi and Tema Ports would have their berths increased to allow more ships to dock.

He said CCTV cameras had been installed at the port to check theft and other clandestine activities by port officials and those who use the place.

“The port authority has put more security cameras all over to monitor activities of those who tamper with people’s goods”, he said.

He added that the road that linked the harbor to the Motorway would soon be completed as the contractors had expedited work on it.
